We welcomed Abbeyfield Kent and their guests to a slightly muddy site on Wednesday to celebrate the start of their new extra care home, just off Tudeley Lane.
Chairman Zach Miles welcomed the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Mark Rhodes and then proceeded to break the ground on this £9.5m project.
Once complete, this scheme will offer 59 beds for affordable rent and for sale through Older Peoples Shared Ownership. The apartments are exclusively for the over 55’s with a need for care or support. The site will offer excellent facilities and ranging levels of care when required by the residents.
Tonbridge Extra Care is being constructed adjacent Abbeyfield Kent’s other major project, Barnes Lodge and we went back to the Lodge after the groundbreaking for tea, cake and a speech from Zach Miles.
Tonbridge Extra Care is being built using a new system to the UK – Xella Silka. This alternative masonry based system has allowed us to take weeks off a traditional build programme and meet the client’s budget and time requirements.
The scheme is due to complete Spring 2018.
