We are very pleased to be finally able to tell you that we have been selected as the preferred contractor to deliver The Urban Sports Park, a unique and one of a kind project, in our home town of Folkestone.
This multi-storey urban sports venue will provide the local community and those from further afield the chance to participate in many different sports including skating, boxing, climbing and bouldering. Each floor will be distinctive and offer a unique experience for visitors. The Urban Sports Park will be managed by Shepway Sports Trust (SST), the Folkestone-based independent charity established to encourage participation and excellence in sport.
The scheme has been designed by award winning architects Guy Hollaway Architects and will be delivered using various construction techniques including timber and concrete surfaces for the skate floors, combining the need for durability and flexibility to modify and upgrade as skating trends evolve.
Shepway Sports Trust Director Laurence Hickmott said: “We are delighted to be moving forward with this fantastic new sports venue, which will be ground-breaking in terms of design and the facilities it will offer. Planning something as untried and as ambitious as this has brought considerable challenges, and it was important to take plenty of advice, including consultations with local people, so that we could achieve what was needed. The project will deliver real benefits for local people and we think it will create new reasons for people to visit Folkestone.”
Martin Sandall, Managing Director for Jenner said: “Jenner are delighted to have been selected as the construction partner to deliver this prestigious landmark building on behalf of the Urban Sports Trust. This project continues the excellent relationship that Jenner has enjoyed with the local community in Folkestone since the company was founded in 1875. It will be an honour to work with such an innovative and forward thinking team throughout the project.”
Our involvement begins where the first phase of groundworks and foundations works left off in early 2017 and the whole team at Jenner is excited to be a part of this project and deliver a scheme that will provide world class facilities to not only the local community, but visitors from across the country.
Keep an eye out for further updates from us!
