“I would like to thank all the team at Jenner for their work on the Jennison workshop refurbishment. I have been involved from the concept of the project to its completion. The team worked hard to ensure we stayed true to our vision for the building whilst working with us to deliver it within budget. Particularly I would like to thank the site manager Kirk Longman who provided excellent support for me throughout the project. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he was always very responsive to any questions, issues or concerns I had.” Charlotte Ifill – University of Kent Project Manager

Jennison, University of Kent (Canterbury)

Location: University of Kent, Canterbury Campus

Client: University of Kent

Completed: November 2020

Value: £1.7m

Following successful completion of many projects previously on behalf of longstanding client the University of Kent; most recently including the construction of Woody’s Bar and Student’s Union, just a stone’s throw from this site, and the sympathetic refurbishment of the Sail and Colour Loft at their Medway campus, Jenner were delighted to be appointed once again, this time to deliver the careful refurbishment of the Jennison Building.

With basement levels below the one storey building that required careful reconfiguration and sandwiched between an existing occupied building and the construction site of the new Kent Medical School, the project was far from simple and required robust management, strong relations with the design team and careful control of subcontractors working within the confined site as it was completely stripped back and refurbished.

Collaborative working was essential, and Site Manager Kirk Longman proactively engaged and established strong working relationships with neighbouring contractor Willmott Dixon to ensure necessary overlap of certain working areas did not delay delivery in any way and proved highly effective to ensure both contractors worked together in their common aim to move construction projects forward during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting works have dramatically enhanced teaching provision for our client and their students, with modernised fit-for-purpose new engineering workshops and learning space as well as a new digital art facility. A modern new link entrance and extension to the rear of the building enhanced the faculty further and completes the project.

Works completed in November 2020, much to the delight of our client scoring Jenner 10/10 for quality of product and service, as well as for our approach to health and safety, the environment and collaborative working as part of Customer satisfaction feedback.
