6 flats were developed on this infill site on Margate’s old High Street. The building had suffered fire damage previously and the original mattress shop was demolished prior to starting.
This project was incredibly challenging logistically, with the entire building taking up the footprint of the site and sloped from front to back. We had to close part of the footpath on the High Street to erect scaffolding and develop the building. There was no space for a site office or welfare facilities on site, so we set up in a greengrocers a few doors away on the High Street.
The flats are developed to a high specification and offer nice details including earthstone worktops in the kitchen, character windows and high ceilings in the one bed properties. The upper level flats offer great views over Margate and towards the seafront.
This scheme has been recognised by the local community, winning a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the Margate Town Pride Awards 2017, hosted by the Margate Civic Society.
