Procured on a two stage design and build basis, we were selected to deliver the new Marsh Academy Community Hub (MACH) located on site at the Marsh Academy. This hub provides more space for the Academy, delivering teaching space to the ground floor for students who require an alternative to the mainstream curriculum.
The building also provides a community hub, offering networking and meeting facilities for the local community and businesses on the second floor. 8 rooms are available for hire on the second floor from rooms seating 6 to the biggest room – MU02 – which seats 40.
The structure of the building itself was a reinforced concrete frame to the ground floor on a piled raft. The ground floor slab involved complex waterproofing details due to the low lying level of the site. A steel frame with Metsec trusses were installed to the first floor.
The building was enveloped with flint block walling to the ground floor and insulated render to the first floor, both fixed to a Metsec walling system. The windows, doors and curtain walling were Kawneer powder coated aluminium. Internally the building contained a complex mechanically ventilated system serving both floors.
The scheme was rated BREEAM Very Good due to its air tight frame, installation of air source heat pump and photovoltaics.
