Sir Michael Fallon opens RBLI Veterans Accommodation

The Secretary of Defense, Sir Michael Fallon, was the guest of honour at the official opening of the Royal British Legion Veterans Accommodation, a project designed by Clague Architects and delivered by Jenner.

Sir Michael was introduced to the project team and guests of honour before he addressed the crowd and unveiled a plaque commemorating the opening.

The 24 one and two bed apartments, completed earlier this year in Aylesford, were delivered via a traditional system of brick and block walls, along with pre-cast concrete floor planks and piled foundations. The second floor block work has an ‘Nvelope’ system which hosts the multi-coloured cladding and provides a fresh, bright look for the blocks.

Externally, the units offer private external spaces for residents in either balcony or terrace form. Two bedroom units benefit from two external spaces, one off the bedroom and one off the lounge.

The apartments have been designed and constructed for veterans who are injured, sick or a risk of homelessness. They form the first phase of a centenary village masterplan which will see further homes for military families as well as community facilities.

Between the two blocks, a gold winning Chelsea Flower Show garden by Jo Thompson has been installed and was donated by the Chelsea Barracks Foundation.

Jenner are very proud to be part of such an important scheme that will provide a future for our military personnel.
