Meet the Team

The success of our business is dependant upon the enthusiasm, dedication and committment of all of those within the Jenner team. The following gives further details of those within senior management, however should you wish to view our organisation structure to show all members of the team click here.

Martin Sandall

Martin commenced his career in construction with an international interiors contractor, initially working within the surveying department on prestigious fit-out projects including the Sultan of Brunei’s palaces both in Brunei and Greater London.

To avoid specialisation in a single facet of the industry, Martin continued his career progression as a surveyor with a national contractor, eventually joining Jenner in 1992, where he quickly progressed to managing the surveying and sub-contract procurement departments.

In 2000, Martin was invited onto the board of directors in the capacity of Commercial Director, and in 2008 became Managing Director and equity partner in the business.

Martin has built up extensive experience in all sectors of the industry, and maintains a significant involvement in the pre-contract evolution of Housing Association and private housing schemes, whilst maintaining a keen interest in every project with which Jenner are associated, with a particular focus on client satisfaction and quality of construction.

Martin has been a significant contributor to the Jenner vision; to become a contemporary, forward thinking and energetic modern contractor in an industry that is experiencing its greatest change for decades. He has a significant understanding and passion for modern technologies and sustainable construction.

Having been a member of the Chartered Institute of Building for 16 years, Martin achieved Fellowship status in 2008.

Nick Barnes

Nick joined Jenner as a trainee site manager in 1982 following which he quickly progressed to site manager. He then made the transition to contracts manager and following his success within this role Nick was invited onto the board of directors as Construction Director in 2000.

With his wealth of building experience and practical skills, Nick undertakes a wide range of responsibilities within the company. He maintains a hands on role and has continued to act as contracts manager on a variety of projects since becoming Construction Director.

Nick has been involved in a number of complex and interesting projects over the years which amongst others include the two enterprise centres constructed by Jenner in Folkestone and Crawley. He was also involved with the Chatham High Street scheme completed in 2005 and th £11.8m Eastern Esplanade project at Cliftonville.

In addition to the construction process Nick is also responsible for work undertaken during the maintenance stage of projects and he also coordinates the health and safety training for office and site based staff.

Nick is a board member of Construction Safety South East and Vice-Chairman of the Invicta Training Group which is an organisation established to encourage training within the industry.

Andy Ralph

Andy started his career as a trainee surveyor with a national contractor in 1990. He soon progressed to assistant surveyor and surveyor and continued his studies to gain a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree at the University of Greenwich.

In 1997 Andy joined a local contractor and in addition to surveying he also gained experience in sub-contract and materials buying and worked on a £2.5m distribution centre at Eurolink, Sittingbourne.

Upon his return to national contracting Andy worked on two large leisure projects at Buckmore Park and Horsham, before joining a hotel chain where he worked with in-house architects on extension projects to provide five star accommodation to listed buildings within their portfolio.

In 2004 Andy joined Jenner as an Estimator. His success within this role led him to become Estimating Director in 2007 and he is responsible for a team of four Estimators. Since being at Jenner, Andy has become a member of the Chartered Institute of Building.

Geoff Crouch

Following the completion of a full-time building studies course at Canterbury College Geoff joined a Kent based national contractor in 1988 as a trainee surveyor. He subsequently progressed through the levels of the surveying department whilst continuing with his Chartered Institute of Building qualifications at Mid Kent College.

Prior to joining Jenner in 2004 Geoff gained a broad range of experience on a variety of construction projects, with the two most notable being the multi-million pound leisure complexes at Horsham and Buckmore Park, Chatham.

In 2007 Geoff was appointed Managing Surveyor responsible for a team of seven surveyors and in April 2010 was invited on to the board of Directors as Surveying Director. Recent contracts completed by Geoff include The John Wesley Primary School at Ashford, William Harvey Hospital, Dover Sea Sports Centre and Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville.

Dean Elvidge

Dean began his career in 1988 with a Canterbury based quantity surveying practice. During this time he undertook a part-time degree course at the University of Greenwich and graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in 1993 and became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1996.

The desire to gain experience with a contracting organisation led Dean to join Jenner in 2000 as a Contract Surveyor and he maintains a senior role within the surveying team. He has gained experience on a number of interesting projects whilst at Jenner, most notably the Annexe to the Trevor Gibbens Unit at Maidstone Hospital, Folkestone Glassworks Phases 2 and 3 for the Creative Foundation and the Victoria Villa project at Margate for Orbit South where he was closely involved with the breeam multi-residential assessment that achieved an excellent rating.

In November 2008, Dean took on the role of New Business Manager and in April 2010 was invited on to the board of directors as Business Development Director. He has recently become Pre-Construction Director, focusing on the front end of the business. As part of this role Dean has been investigating areas of the business that have potential for further development. He is also involved in managing Jenner’s Quality Management System and he played a key role in this achieving ISO 9001 accreditation during 2014.

Darren Welch

Darren joined the board of directors as Development Director in November 2014. Previously, he has worked for some of the largest contractors in the South East of England.

Working predominately in the housing, education and care sectors, Darren was instrumental in the delivery of the Ashford Borough Council PFI regeneration at Stanhope, as well as the Kent County Council ‘Better Homes Active Lives’ PFI, providing older persons accommodation across Kent.

Darren will be focusing on securing land led opportunities, mainly in housing and care, an area which he has had significant experience in previously.

Darren is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and has worked in the construction industry for almost 30 years.

Peter Chandler

Peter started his career as a Trainee Accountant with a local builder. From there he moved on to Saga Holidays where he qualified as a member of the Institute Of Management Accountants.

After spending the next ten years at various Kent based companies implementing accounting and IT systems Peter joined Jenner in 1997 as the Company Accountant and Office Manager. Within this role Peter has overall responsibility for IT, company accounts, bonds and insurances and the vehicle fleet.

In 2002 Peter became Company Secretary and was instrumental in introducing the current IT and accounting system used by Jenner since 2007.

Derek Kedwell

Derek joined the company in 1982 as a general trainee and gained experience of working within a number of different departments including Hythe Plant Services and Park Farm Joinery.

Following a period of time on site Derek then worked within the General Works department where he undertook both surveying and estimating duties. During this time he also worked on measured term contracts where he undertook both contracts managing and surveying duties.

As the business evolved and the need for a materials buying department was recognised, Derek became involved with the development of this department from its early stages and soon took on the role of Chief Buyer. He is now responsible for a team of three who undertake both materials and plant purchases. Derek is also responsible for our mobile and office communication systems.

Derek has maintained close links with our joinery department, Park Farm Joinery throughout his career at Jenner. His knowledge of joinery and timber supply meant that he was ideally suited to take on the Managing Director role of the department in 2004.

Michael Larnder

Michael joined Jenner Contractors in 1988 as a trade apprentice. Following his apprenticeship within the General Works Department Michael became a site foreman and then General works foreman, during this period he obtained ONC and HNC qualifications in building studies.

Following a period of site supervision Michael moved into a new role of Contracts Manager and then Department Manager overseeing a team of approximately 30 operatives and office based staff who undertake works in the region of £1,000 to £1.6m.

The General works department has a wide client base and an impressive project portfolio many of which can be viewed within the projects section of this website. Michael and his team continue to achieve customer satisfaction by delivering projects on time and to an exceptional standard, which has led to the department establishing a number of long term client relationships.

Arthur King

After leaving school in 1977, Arthur served a full apprenticeship as a bench joiner with a local building contractor, following which he then broadened his experience for two years by working for a small London based company carrying out renovation work to old properties in the local area.

Arthur then joined Jenner in the early eighties as a Bench Joiner and then moved on to become a Machinist/Joiner, then a Setter-Outer and subsequently Assistant Joinery Manager.

In 2005 Arthur became Joinery Manager of Park Farm Joinery and is responsible for producing joinery to both Jenner and external customers with a team of 10 staff.

Arthur was instrumental in developing Park Farm Joinery’s ISO 9001 accreditation with BM TRADA.
