From classroom to construction site…
Date: November 2021
Two of our Folkestone sites at Cornwallis Avenue and the major development of the seafront have this month twice-welcomed construction students from Folkestone College to view their trades in action and gain first-hand experience of live construction sites.
The students, aged 16-18 were studying differing trades including bricklaying, painting and carpentry and some underway with the new T ’Level qualification in construction, and thoroughly engaged in the tours asking questions and showing keen interest in the works underway.
Cornwallis Avenue, to be known as Greenside View, will deliver 10 executive houses on behalf of our sister company Leath Park developments. The students viewed the houses as they continue their phased construction before they departed to view the seafront site, allowing them insight into two sites of very differing scales.
The seafront development gave prime opportunity to showcase the bespoke white glazed brickwork that will form the stunning façade and give a glistening effect in the sunlight as it advanced before them. They loved climbing to the top of the seven-storey east block to experience the spectacular views gained from this elevation over the English Channel.
The visits were fundamental in enhancing local relationships with Folkestone College continuing our commitment and responsibility to inspire future generations and address the pressing skills gap that our industry faces.
