Sprucing in the rain! Team Jenner clean up Folkestone seafront.

Date: May 2022

As part of our continuing commitment to our hometown, as a Folkestone-based considerate contractor, Jenner were delighted to re-engage with local charity the Folkestone Town Sprucers to clean-up areas surrounding our seafront construction site, including the beachfront after a busy weekend had left it littered and once again in great need of attention.

The Folkestone Town Sprucers are a charitable initiative funded by Kent County Council and the Roger de Haan Charitable Trust, that supports the long-term unemployed with constructive voluntary activities. Their work hugely benefits the local community by improving the environment around Folkestone and the districts beyond, through coordinated litter picks, clearances and cleaning.

Whilst the inclement weather did not match the weekend’s sunshine that preceded it, nor the last time the teams joined forces ahead of the 2021 Triennial bathed in glorious sunshine, the rain did not dampen the spirits of the Jenner team deployed to assist the Sprucers with their work, and who found the morning highly-rewarding and most enjoyable, once again.

The Jenner volunteers mainly sourced from our seafront development team, where we are continuing the construction of 84 luxury beachfront homes, were once again joined by Folkestone-based business and industry colleagues Martello, who also kindly volunteered their time, as another local business firmly committed to their community.

Jenner project manager for the Folkestone Seafront site Chris Page openly expressed his commitment, as a responsible contractor, to giving something back to the communities we serve, both in terms of people and place: - “Whilst the benefits to the environment speak for themselves, vastly improving the visibility of the town, it is wholly rewarding to work directly with the people who make up the Sprucers, to offer them a safe environment in which to regain their confidence, engage with others and prepare them to find future employment. It’s a win-win situation and we are always delighted to support their work”

Since lead Trustee Adrian Lockwood informed us that working with the Jenner team was always a highlight for the Sprucers, owing to the post-clean-up coffee and bacon rolls in the Leas Lift Café, they were treated once again to thank them for their ongoing efforts in keeping our town clean and tidy. A small gesture that clearly goes a long way, and Jenner look forward to working with them again soon.
