Committed to keeping our hometown clean!
Date: July 2021
As part of our commitment to Folkestone and responsibility as a considerate contractor, Jenner were delighted to engage with local charity the Folkestone Town Sprucers to clear and tidy areas of the town ahead of an influx of visitors for the forthcoming 2021 Folkestone Triennial.
The Folkestone Town Sprucers are a charitable initiative funded by Kent County Council and the Roger de Haan Charitable Trust, that supports the long-term unemployed with constructive voluntary activities that hugely benefit the local community.
The Jenner team included Managing Director Martin Sandall and Construction Director Michael Withers, as well as many representatives from the management team of our neighbouring seafront residential development, and were also joined by local Folkestone-based business and industry colleagues Martello who kindly volunteered their time.
The resident Sprucers took charge and divided the volunteering workforce into two teams who soon got to work, clearing away overgrown shrubs that covered delightful Kentish ragstone walls on the outskirts of a redundant car park opposite the seafront, whilst the others hit the beach to litter pick from the harbour arm through to our Jenner site at the west end of the beach, after a busy summers weekend had left it littered and in great need of attention. Jenner donated a skip to take care of all the larger items of debris collected and green waste.
It was a delightful morning, bathed in summer sunshine and which all volunteers found highly-rewarding and enjoyable. Lead Sprucer and Trustee Adrian Lockwood subsequently informed us that this was one of the Sprucers favourite clean-ups and that they hadn’t stopped talking about it; perhaps owing to the coffee and bacon rolls in the Leas Lift Café that followed.
More litter-picks are scheduled for future months to continue our commitment to making Folkestone a better place, both surrounding our construction projects and in the area Park Farm region by our main office.
