During these uncertain and unprecedented times, it is vital that businesses play their part and do what they can to help others and support their local communities. The current COVID-19 pandemic is unlike anything we have seen before in our lifetimes and leaves many of us feeling anxious and somewhat ‘helpless’ especially if we are not key workers on the frontline of the battle against the virus. Whilst abiding by government advice to stay home and protect our families thereby safeguarding vital NHS resources is the fundamental message we have sent out, it is nice to be able to do more.

In challenging times we all have to step up, pull together and play our part!

Date: April 2020

Recent weeks have been challenging for us all and have called for tough business decisions to be made, but the Directors of Jenner have always endeavoured to do what is morally and ethically correct and that puts the safety of our people ahead of anything else. Aside from making the pre-emptive ‘duty of care’ decision to cease all live construction activity ahead of government directive to do so, Jenner decided to donate all surplus Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in our possession to support those at the forefront of fighting the pandemic.

With our construction sites temporarily closed, the PPE we had in stock that is usually so vital in our day-to-day operations became superfluous. Whilst we have to retain a minimal amount to ensure the protection of our emergency maintenance team reacting to callouts, we felt the need to put the rest of our stock to better use, and accordingly any spare FFP3 protective masks, foot coverings, overalls and goggles have now been distributed locally to protect NHS workers and carers who are bravely dealing with the virus first-hand.

First deliveries were made to support our valued client Care UK at two of our recently completed residential care homes in Ashford and Whitstable, who between them provide vital care to over 120 elderly and vulnerable residents. Protective clothing was running low and our donation meant their staff could continue to protect themselves whilst caring for their residents. The PPE donated reduces the possibility of cross-contamination and spread of infection, which is a huge concern in the environment of those at heightened risk.

Further supplies of masks have also been distributed to the William Harvey Hospital and to the Thanet Community Nursing team who are all dealing hands-on with suspected and confirmed cases of Coronavirus. Our donations were both directly associated with members of the Jenner team who made a direct plea to us to support a member of their family and their colleagues who are keyworkers within the NHS. It was an absolute privilege to be able to support them and help in this way.

At Jenner, social responsibility is firmly embedded within our core values to be accountable and act with integrity, and we always endeavour to go above and beyond what is expected of us to help the communities we serve. We do whatever we can in the knowledge that every gesture, however small, can cumulatively make a huge difference. In times like this it is vital we all step up, pull together and play our part and we sincerely hope our contributions have gone some way to help others who are proactively involved in caring for our communities.
