Returning from their epic journey from the UK across European borders delivering vital aid to the war-torn Ukraine, Team Jenner colleagues Project Manager Simon Ward and Surveyor Ben Pollard, have proved that not all superheroes wear capes.

Simon and Ben’s Ukrainian Aid Mission

Date: June 2022

Covering over 2500 miles, Simon and Ben were part of a convoy, taking a range of essential items to ensure they reached those who needed them most. Battling through atrocious weather, passing numerous military vehicles along the way and navigating chaotic borders, and all whilst deprived of sleep given the many early starts, their four day mission ensured the correct aid was delivered to exactly where it was needed.

Jenner are incredibly proud to have supported their heroic efforts, through the provision of their time, the van (branded in support with the country’s native colours) and fuel to transport Simon and Ben to the Ukraine, allowing them to fulfil their personal challenge to greatly help others. Making a huge difference to the lives of those living amidst unimaginable circumstances, both openly described the scenes witnessed as “heart-breaking”. Visiting many large displacement centres (camps set up to provide shelter and safety for displaced women and children) they delivered rucksacks, specifically packed with requested essentials for both women and children and wholeheartedly praised the efforts of those running these centres which were harrowingly very busy. During a visit to a local orphanage on day four Simon claimed “The children’s reactions really did make the whole trip worthwhile.” The mission included travelling to supermarkets in Poland to get further essential supplies and they also distributed vital veterinary supplies too.

It was an old school friend of Simon’s (the landlord of the Three Mariners in Hythe) who started the appeal and encouraged Simon to get involved, with Ben quickly keen to support. Naturally the success of the overall mission has been hugely reliant on the generosity of others, as well as support from local businesses to provide the vehicles, channel crossings and fuel, so that all personal donations can be used to purchase the items required. The overall aim is to raise a staggering £30k and the fundraising page continues to accept donations Crowdfunding to help us with our mission to deliver Ukrainian Aid direct on JustGiving
