Continuing to lead the way in delivery of exemplar affordable housing, Jenner has completed construction of The Brickworks; a stunning development comprising of 17 apartments consisting of six one-bedroom, seven two-bedrooms and four duplex three-bedroom homes.

The Brickworks - Halstow Way, Ashford

Location: Ashford, Kent

Client: Ashford Borough Council

Completed: 2022

Value: £4.2 Million

Supported by funding from Homes England the scheme was able to deliver the homes at social rent levels and continues the strong relationship between Ashford Borough Council and Jenner and their strong pipeline of development to ensure high quality affordable homes are available for all those who need them.

Built on the site of a former rundown play area the news homes are of traditional construction with strip footings, a mix of pitched and flat roof structures and rendering and brickwork to finish. There is a lift in each of the two main cores of the building for accessibility and each apartment has a balcony. Externally the development offers private parking for its residents including vehicle charging points and are landscaped to ensure the development blends well into its neighbouring region. The fabric first approach ensures energy efficient homes that are environmentally considerate as well as cost effective for the residents in occupation.

Jenner engaged with local practice AIMIS Solutions to together deliver this scheme as our first foray into the world of BIM technology. Working collaboratively with the Jenner team alongside appointed technical designers ON Architecture to effectively and efficiently deliver the project.

During construction, as part of our commitment as a responsible contractor to addressing the pressing skills shortages faced throughout the industry, the site team welcomed ten young children, aged between 5-8 from the nearby holiday club ‘Kiddie Kapers’ to tell them more about what happens on a live construction site, to keep them safe around building works and to hopefully inspire them to consider a career in construction (one day!) The children, dressed in hi-vis were guided safely through the site to view the construction works underway, and were treated to a host of site machinery in action, much to their delight.
